The Salida City Council convened recently to deliberate on several significant matters affecting our community, including liquor licensing and funding for upcoming public events.
Liquor Licensing Decisions
Acting as the Liquor Licensing Authority, the council considered a new liquor license application for Graystone Roadhouse, a restaurant planning to open in the former Stokes building along Highway 50. The application was reviewed to ensure compliance with local regulations and to assess the establishment’s potential impact on the community.
Additionally, the council addressed concerns regarding Arlie Dale’s Jug Liquor, located at 220 North F Street. Multiple complaints have been received about the conduct of the owner and patrons. Salida Police Chief Russ Johnson requested a formal compliance review of the establishment’s liquor license, with possible suspension or revocation under consideration. The council may issue an order to show cause and schedule a public hearing on the matter.
Funding for Fireworks Displays
Under new business, city staff sought direction from the council regarding funding for fireworks displays planned for the Fourth of July and the Parade of Lights. While local nonprofits and businesses have raised more than $6,000, the total cost of the displays is estimated at $35,000. The council discussed potential funding sources and the importance of these events to the community.
Additional Agenda Items
The council also considered the potential appointment of Ryan Short to the Historic Preservation Commission, proposed amendments to the city’s 2026 fee schedule, and a vote on seasonal closures of F Street. The proposed closure would run from May 21 through September 22, aligning with the city’s peak tourism season.
